MTV Launches Drive to Get Young People to Vote

Jennifer Lopez danced her way into the history books on Monday, taking home the coveted Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards.

With Franklin passing last Friday at age 76, the VMAs confirmed pre-show that the awards ceremony would pay homage and tribute to the Queen of Soul. You honor a legend by telling their story or SHUT UP. And I know she influenced so many people in this house tonight.

"None of this would have happened, could have happened, without our lady of soul", she said. Although many were hoping the new mother would perform at the VMAs, she still didn't disappoint serving as the opener for the show. Remember when you thought she sang, "Are you Ellie?" during the "I'm Real" remix with Ja Rule?

One of the hottest performances of the night came from 24-year-old Colombian crooner Maluma, who took the stage in a silver-and-black suit (without any shirt at all) to perform his hit, "Felices los 4", alongside a bevy of stunning, gold-clad backup dancers. "R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Long live the queen".

Also cheering on Lopez was from the front row was none other than beau, Alex Rodriguez, who has even lent his unwavering support during rehearsal sessions for the big performance. On my way down, I lost a shoe, and I was rolling on the floor and trying to make it look like it was part of the choreography, looking for the missing stiletto, and my dress flew up, and my butt was exposed. When people have said, 'You're doing too much, you can only do one thing, ' I always had it in my mind.

April Reign took Madonna and MTV to task tweeting, "They played a video of Aretha". One wrote: "I have no issue with Madonna's clunky speech".

But "Respect" (1967) was her signature tune and the broadcast ended with a recording of Aretha belting out the Otis Redding cover as the audience danced wildly. "I really don't see the problem".
