His season-long loan will cost the English club 2.25 million euros, Barca said in a statement.

Everton have reached an agreement with Barcelona to sign Colombia defender Yerry Mina for 30.25m euros (£27.19m), while signing Mina's team-mate Andre Gomes on loan.

Bernard joined Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013, and has risen throughout his time with the Ukrainian giants.

Mina played alongside Digne during his half-season stint at the Catalan club, and like the Frenchman, spent much of his time at the Nou Camp subject to the reserves.

"Every discussion we've had was very important in making me feel his confidence about my game".

Everton trebled their tally of summer signings from Barcelona on a productive deadline day for new manager Marco Silva.

Speaking to evertontv, Bernard said that the chance to join a "great club with great tradition" was the key driving factor behind his decision to sign for the club, vowing to help "make things happen" alongside former Watford manager Silva. He has achieved really good things at other clubs.

Asked specifically about his chat with Silva, he continued: 'I did not need a lot of convincing. But I was also convinced Everton could improve me and that I would be able to show my best as a player here'.

Bernard, also 25, has signed a four-year deal with the Merseyside club after his contract at Shakhtar ran out in June.

Likewise, Portuguese global Gomes has failed to establish himself as a first team regular since joining from Valencia for an initial 35 million euro fee in 2016.
