Brad Pitt says he has given Jolie Pitt millions since split

Jolie Pitt's attorneys said in their own court filing Tuesday that Pitt has failed to live up to their informal financial arrangements, and she'll seek a court order to get retroactive payments from him.

United States actor Brad Pitt has rebutted claims made by his estranged wife Angelina Jolie that he has failed to support their children.

"What has been filed by Brad's side today is a blatant attempt to obfuscate the truth and distract from the fact that he has not fully met his legal obligations to support the children", the statement read.

In the papers lodged with LA Superior Court, Pitt's lawyers said that he "adamantly disputes the contention that he has not paid child support". "Angelina will of course honour that loan".

"Angelina is asking Brad to pay 50 per cent of the children's expenses". "Angelina has had to shoulder the majority of those without his contribution for the past two years".

A bitter custody battle between Jolie, 43, and Pitt, 54, has played out publicly in the time since their announced separation.

A source went on to claim to UsWeekly that Jolie, who is now filming Maleficent 2 in London, had been forced to return to work making movies in order to cover the costs associated with raising her children.

'She didn't work for a year and a half to be with the kids and is only working to pay off the house as he kept the family home, ' the source alleged.

Pitt's attorney also calls Jolie's filing a "thinly-veiled effort to manipulate media coverage". The document added that he loaned Jolie Pitt $8 million to buy her current home, and has paid over $1.3 million in bills for the benefit of Jolie Pitt and their six children. Ms Jolie's spokesperson told The Telegraph: "The court filing was meant to provide closure to the marriage in a way that clears a path towards the next stage of their lives and allows her and Brad to recommit as devoted co-parents to their children".

In June, US Weekly reported that Jolie and Pitt had reached a new temporary custody agreement, which laid out all of the dates during the [northern hemisphere] summer that the actor would have custody of Maddox, 16, Pax, 14, Zahara, 13, Shiloh, 12, Vivienne, 10 and Knox, 10.
