At least four dead in Fredericton shootings

Police in eastern Canada say there have been "multiple fatalities" following a shooting in the city of Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Witnesses spoke of hearing four shots ring out from an address on Brookside Drive around 8.20am local time.

CBS News security analyst Paul Vollis said that based exclusively on the video from the scene, it appeared the police had established a primary and secondary security cordon area, indicating that they had likely determined the location of the shooter or shooters.

They're also asking people not to post information about the position or activities of police and first responders during this "active incident".

Shooting took place in the city of Fredericton where police urging people to stay inside and lock doors.

It happened in the Brookside Drive area where there are a number of shops and houses.

Shootings are rare in Canada and the country is known for its strict gun laws.
