Alisson Becker's individual highlights during Crystal Palace vs Liverpool are superb

Bookmakers have been suitably impressed as Liverpool are now 10/3 second-favourites to win the league this season.

Andrew Robertson should have broken the deadlock when he seized on Salah's cross 10 yards from goal, but the Liverpool defender's woeful shot flew high into the stands.

Palace weren't making it easy for Liverpool and Salah, after surrendering the ball too easily, epitomised the effort levels required to seal the points as he sprinted back tenaciously regain possession. However, Liverpool will pose a much sterner test of Crystal Palace's mettle. "We gave them enough problems and we can consider ourselves unlucky to lose 2-0". Gomez, who has played primarily as a fullback since making the move to Anfield under former boss Brendan Rodgers, looked solid throughout pre-season playing in a central role and while he's unlikely to shift Lovren out of his starting spot when the Croatian is fit, he's sure to challenge for a place in the match-day squad over the coming months.

Many people scoffed when the Reds splashed £75m on Van Dijk in January but the improvements have been there for all to see as Liverpool have kept nine clean sheets in his sixteen Premier League appearances, conceding only ten goals.

"It was really, really good", Klopp said of Van Dijk's performance against Palace. "I've been in football a long time and, if that's a penalty, then the game has changed beyond all recognition". "I couldn't care less really", he retorted. I don't want penalties for my team in that way. We won it because we scored in two very decisive moments.

"The frustration is because I don't think that's a penalty". We are not in a race with other Premier League teams each weekend.

When even the goalkeeper can play exciting football in a Klopp team, there's plenty of reason to worry. But I'm not prepared to suggest that the only players worth considering are ones who have won the Champions League or the Premier League trophy, because to do that you have got to play for two or three clubs.

The Dutch defender has been a colossus at the back for Liverpool so far this season, organising and cajoling his fellow defenders in a manner that many haven't seen since Sami Hyppia, and the statistics back up his impressive displays.
