Air Quality Alert issued for Snohomish County starting Monday night

An air quality alert was issued on Tuesday for Flathead, Lincoln, and Sanders counties.

The sunrise over the Portland metro area Tuesday morning revealed an orange orb behind a haze of smoke from wildfires burning across British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest, prompting the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality to issue air quality advisories for swaths of western Oregon. A high pressure system is pushing upper-level wildfire smoke down. "But I'm thinking maybe it's not a cold".

Air pollution is increasing due to wildfire smoke and may cause health problems.

Over the course of the next couple of days, air quality from the Crowsnest Pass, east to the Taber area, south to the USA border and north to the Calgary area, is expected to drastically deteriorate.

It's not just people sensitive to the pollution.

The air quality is expected to remain in the unhealthy range through Thursday evening, according to KGW meteorologist Matt Zaffino. Check the air quality forecast regularly at the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency's website. "So it's hard to find places to keep the windows and doors closed".

While a spray park can help your family beat the heat - it's not helping keep fine particles out of your airways. "We tend to get this split moving through, winds tend to come through the Connector and split up and down the canyon".

When the air is unhealthy, everyone should limit time outdoors and avoid strenuous activities outdoors.

According to the Washington State Department of Health, people who are at greater risk for health impacts are those who have asthma, COPD, diabetes and other lung or heart diseases.
