Zaman leads Pakistan to T20 tri-series title with win over Australia

Past year he was no way near Pakistan cricket, now Fakhar Zaman has become an integral part of the team, single-handedly winning games for the green shirts.

Aaron Finch's impressive showing in the Twenty20 worldwide triangular series in Zimbabwe helped him jump four places to No. 1 in the latest ICC T20I rankings, it was announced on Monday (July 9). With the decline in the fortunes of Mohammad Hafeez, Pakistan are increasingly looking towards Malik to provide the stability under tricky conditions which saw them complete their run chase of 184 in the final, where at one point it appeared that Australia would embarrass the top-ranked team.

From 95 for 0 after the first 10 overs, Australia lost 8 for 88 and their 183 for 8 was not quite enough to better Pakistan in the final analysis.

Rahul led India to a win in the opening T20I of the three-match series with an unbeaten 101. Australia captain Aaron Finch chipped in with 47 runs.

"Finchy has definitely put his best foot forward in this series, so we'll look at that".

Following Australia's morale-shattering ODI whitewash to England last month, Langer conceded his side would need to decide whether incumbent skipper Tim Paine was the right man to captain them in the 50-over format. The Aussies won the 1999, 2003 and the 2007 World Cups. He made a century in the first Twenty20 game against England. It's been a rough one and half years... with injuries.

Finch too found some terrific touch in the African nation, taking his worldwide T20 run tally past 400 with his mammoth 172 against Zimbabwe, before coming back to earth with scores of 3 and 16 in Australia's last two games.

Langer lauded Finch, saying he set the example by performing from the front to help the more-inexperienced players flourish around him - something Paine struggled to do with bat in hand in England last month. "To have someone that dynamic is a great example to all our players", Langer said. Along with head coach Arthur, whose insistence for his side to play a new brand of cricket where fitness and performance go hand-in-hand, Inzamam has created the environment necessary for Pakistan to produce winning performances on a regular basis. "That's how he needs to play his cricket".
