Woman shot and killed by stray bullet in Mexico

However, the relatively safe Mexico City data didn't do anything for newlywed Mirutenko, who had traveled from San Francisco with her husband where they had begun married life.

"We were devastated to hear the news of Tatiana's death". Mexican authorities say gunmen on a motorcycle were aiming at a bouncer at a nearby bar when one of their bullets struck Mirutenko in the head. The man was wounded, but survived, and the attackers escaped.

Friends and family are now mourning the sudden loss of Ms Mirutenko, who will be flown back to the U.S. for a burial in Chicago.

"Out of respect for the family during this hard time, we have no further comment", the official added. "We want this period to be a celebration of her life, to recognize all the people that she touched".

Hoover and the couple's friends rushed her out of the establishment, the statement said.

The Illinois native was also an accomplished volleyball player and played for Clemson University in SC.

Tatiana was a high school junior when she entered Lake Forest Academy as a transfer student from Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart and was "super eager to be part of our community", Dean of Students Chris Tennyson said. "I don't know what I will do without her pushing me to do everything I can to be as great as her". She was a staple in the economics department and was never afraid to ask questions or discuss course work.

Ms Mirutenko lived with her husband in San Francisco, where she worked as an analyst at pharmaceutical company Nektar Therapeutics.

"Tatiana was a bright and passionate rising star on our Nektar Investor Relations team", said Jennifer Ruddock, a spokeswoman for Nektar Therapeutics. "She was always willing to help on any project across the company and had an incredibly strong work ethic", Ruddock said. "Many throughout Nektar, and outside the company, valued her positive energy, insight and sheer enthusiasm for life".

Tatiana was a role model to her younger sister, Roma, who described her as a companion for adventures and explorations, trying new restaurants and practicing volleyball. As a mother, we always say things, but she inspired me to be better. "She was so selfless".

'Today we were looking at flowers for the funeral, ' her heartbroken father Wasyl told ABC. Her funeral and burial services are scheduled for Saturday.
