White House Unhappy With Pompeo-North Korea Visit

"If those requests were gangster-like, the world is a gangster, because there was a unanimous decision at the UN Security Council about what needs to be achieved", he told reporters.

But Trump tweeted Monday that he has "confidence" that Kim would honour the denuclearisation "contract" they signed at the summit and accused China - the isolated North's powerful neighbour and ally - of seeking to undermine the deal.

Trump's comments echoed the stance of Republican senator Lindsey Graham, who said Pyongyang's latest condemnation of the US has "China's hands all over" it.

Since Trump's announcement suspending all joint military exercises with the South Koreans following his meeting with Kim in Singapore, the president has touted the cost savings of canceling the exercises, which he has characterized as "very expensive" and "provocative" to the North Koreans.

"President Trump and Chairman Kim made a commitment to recover the remains of U.S. service members in North Korea as well as to repatriate remains that they now have", stated Kelly McKeague, Director of U.S. Defense of POW/MIA Accounting Agency. "We will continue to play a positive role in and make constructive contributions to realizing the denuclearization of the Peninsula and achieving the long-lasting peace and stability of the region".

North Korea said Pompeo's trip went "as badly as it could have gone", CNN's Will Ripley quoted a source as saying. "But, it seems that the USA misunderstood our goodwill and patience".

On Weibo, China's twitter-like microblogging platform, one user asked "why is the U.S. - a country so far away - keeping an eye on the North Korea's denuclearization progress?" He repeated that the United States would not push for any sanctions relief until after North Korea proved its nuclear program no longer existed and could not be rehabilitated.

Seoul and Washington said in June they would halt the joint exercise after U.S. President Donald Trump pledged to end war games following his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore on June 12.

Since the summit, Trump has taken to praising Kim.

He added that Trump has won the "face" as the peacemaker, but will require China to deliver the "lining" on denuclearization as Beijing has a bigger say in awarding Pyongyang economic gains.
