Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Toronto

Environment Canada is expecting the storms will diminish and pass through by this evening, but not before ushering in some potentially unsafe weather.

Maximum daily temperatures near 29C or above and overnight temperatures near 14C or above are expected Monday and Tuesday, Environment Canada said in a notice issued issued Sunday afternoon. Some of these thunderstorms may be severe with torrential rain, damaging wind gusts, and large hail possible. Sometimes severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes, the agency said.

A heat warning issued Saturday by Environment Canada remains in effect today as temperatures are likely to climb to 31 C, feeling more like 38 with humidity.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperatures could pose an elevated risk of heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

A break from the sweltering heat will come this evening as the wet weather brings a cold front through the region.

Cooler temperatures are expected later this week when the humidity dissipates.

"Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place", the advisory reads.

Wednesday will see a high of 25 C and a high of 27 C is in the forecast for Thursday and Friday.
