Rockets Emerge as 'Strong Frontrunners' To Get Carmelo Anthony

Anthony's best spot would be at power forward on the Lakers, a position James figures to play a lot of.

"At some point here, it is expected they'll do a waive-and-stretch on Carmelo Anthony", said Adrian Wojnarowski.

After landing in OKC via trade last summer, the Thunder envisioned that fielding an elite trio of Russell Westbrook, Paul George and Anthony would be sufficient enough for them to challenge the leaders in the Western Conference.

We all know how Melo's tenure with Oklahoma City went.

With that news of a release from the Thunder came the National Basketball Association rumors about other teams as potential landing spots for Carmelo Anthony. With the leadership skills of CP3 and his relationship with Melo, why not? Only two teams are standing out as major contenders to land him, though. Charania reports that the 34-year old forward has also considered teaming up with Dwyane Wade in Miami but all signs point to him heading to H-Town to team with Chris Paul and James Harden. Houston already has lost Trevor Ariza and Luc Mbah a Moute this offseason, and replacing the defensive-minded forwards with the shoot-first Anthony would be more than puzzling. If there's one thing Rockets Head Coach Mike D'Antoni loves, it is shooting. The two entered the league in the same National Basketball Association draft class, along with Dwyane Wade. The franchise is reportedly working on a buyout or a stretching of the contract for the 10-time All-Star. That could make him joining LeBron out in an opportunity-rich area like California an even stronger possibility. Once that time comes, it is widely believed that the Houston Rockets will be Carmelo's next destination. Carmelo needs to strongly consider the team's potential to get to the 2019 NBA Finals and win it all if he wants to add an NBA ring to his career resume.
