Riyad Mahrez has declared that he is good enough to become a Manchester City regular despite the intense competition he will face after completing his move from Leicester City.

The Algerian, who has been leaning on former Le Harve team-mate Benjamin Mendy for the inside track on City, lost twice against Pep Guardiola's champions last term.

Only Kevin De Bruyne, with £280 000 (R5 million) a week, and Sergio Aguero as well as David Silva, who are both understood to pocket £220 000 (R3.92 million) weekly, earn more than the African.

Asked if he was anxious about the challenge of getting into the City side, Mahrez said: "No, I never thought about that".

"Watching them from afar has been a pleasure".

Last season saw us fall at the quarter-final stage to Liverpool, despite finishing 25 points ahead of the Anfield side in the Premier League, a moment that represented the low point of our campaign.

"That's why I'm here, why I made the decision to come here, because I want to be part of this".

"I think we can be successful over the coming years and I believe my own game can develop under Pep's management".

Mahrez was finally unveiled as a club-record £60million signing on Thursday after protracted negotiations with Leicester City, joining a team to have struck fear into the Premier League. We didn't think we were going to lose but we did. Have your say in the comments section below.

He said: "The Champions League is for big clubs, they're a big club, they have everything to try to win it".

"I haven't talked about my precise position with the manager yet, but City wanted me and that means a lot", Mahrez said. "It's a goal. Now we will have to work and see what can happen".
