Newlywed Couple Collide While Zip-Lining, Leaving Husband Dead, Wife Injured

At that time, the couple was both still alive, though suffering serious injuries.

"The girl stayed halfway on the cable and the guy came from behind and hit her up there", chief fire fighter Wilmer Guerrero told La Prensa newspaper.

The fatal accident that ensued saw Egael Tishman, 24, and Shif Fanken, 27, collide with each other in mid-air.

Two ambulances rushed to the site of the zip line, located in the French Harbor neighborhood near a highway that stretches to the north side of the island, Guerrero said.

"The young man complained that he could not breathe", Guerrero said. The couple were on a seven-day cruise on Allure of the Seas, which departed from Fort Lauderdale on July 1 with stops in Nassau, Bahamas; Cozumel, Mexico; Roatan, Honduras; and Costa Maya, Mexico.

Authorities are continuing to investigate how the accident happened.

The couple booked the Extreme Caribe Zip Line Tour through the Royal Caribbean website, according to a local firefighter.

Royal Caribbean is "providing support and assistance to the guests' family and friends", Torres said.

After being transported to the United States, Fanken underwent surgery.

The Israeli foreign Ministry contacted the Embassy in Guatemala with the goal of the transport bodies of the deceased home. Three years ago, a woman was injured while zip-lining, and 10 years ago a woman died after a cable snapped, causing her to fall 65 feet. This number does not include the "thousands of amateur zip lines".
