Monaco bid for Chelsea target Aleksandr Golovin

French side AS Monaco have come from nowhere and are now in contention to sign Chelsea target Alexander Golovin.

The CSKA Moscow midfielder scored one, and provided two assists for Russia this summer, helping what had been described as "the worst side in Russian history" on a surprise journey to the quarter finals, knocking out 2010 World Champions Spain along the way.

The article also claims that Arsenal are interested in signing Golovin this summer, but it is Monaco who have made the first official move to try and sign him.

And Football London journalist Charles Watts said: "The chances of Golovin moving to Arsenal really ended when Arsene Wenger left the club".

"So when the Frenchman left, it was always very unlikely that the 22-year-old would end up at the Emirates".

Golovin is now interesting Chelsea.

The Blues forked out big to sign Jorginho from Napoli last week, with the player moving in a £50million transfer, but Sarri still wants more.

There were claims that AS Monaco could enter the race and offer more money in exchange for the Russian, but they have fast been waved away. The contract length offered is five years.

Golovin was one of the players that the Catalans were considering to bolster their midfield, but they were never completely clear if he was the right man.

Vasilyev added: 'Everything should be decided in the coming days.

'I think in this situation a move to Monaco is the correct option for Golovin.

'We can not wait long.
