Liverpool open talks with Stoke City over Xherdan Shaqiri

The Swiss winger once again impressed for Switzerland at this summer's World Cup, but could ultimately do little to stop his country sliding out of the tournament at the hands of a plucky Sweden side in the round of 16.

Jurgen Klopp has identified the Switzerland worldwide as one who can bolster his attacking options, while the presence of a release clause in the 26-year-old's contract makes a deal a financially attractive one.

Liverpool are in discussions with Stoke about a deal for winger Xherdan Shaqiri.

Stoke's relegation from the Premier League means Shaqiri's exit is a certainty and he is expected to line up with Liverpool's other new recruits, Naby Keita and Fabinho in the next two weeks.

Ojo, who spent a year ago helping Fulham win promotion to the Premier League scoring four goals in 22 appearances despite being sidelined for a time by a dislocated shoulder, has impressed already in pre-season. The Potters have also made contact to discuss Ojo's plans for the 2018/19 season.

The forward has been a player on Liverpool's radar since 2014 as the club, then managed by Brendan Rodgers, tried to prise him away from Bayern Munich, who blocked the deal, according to the player.

Shaqiri was a major coup for Stoke when he signed from Inter in 2015, but despite moments of brilliance he has never shown his ability on a consistent basis in the Premier League. It's pretty normal to be aware of clubs being interested.
