High-specced Honor 10 GT with 8GB RAM now official

According to Huawei, GPU Turbo will boost the gaming efficiency of Huawei's Kirin chips by 60 percent, while also cutting battery consumption by a third. It's officially called the Honor 10 GT, and its predecessor by contrast, the Honor 10, only had 4 or 6 GB RAM options when it was released in China this past April.

The update, first announced in CES Asia 2018, mixes both hardware and software in the way it optimizes a device's graphics processing units (GPU).

The Honor 10 GT has identical specifications as that of Honor 10, except for the 8GB RAM instead of 6GB.

The smartphone will be powered by a Kirin 970 SoC and will be enabled with Honor's GPU Turbo technology out-of-box. The dual rear cameras have a resolution of 16 and 24MP while the latter is a monochrome sensor, with an aperture of f/1.8 along with support for PDAF and AI scene recognition. The Honor 10 GT has a 5.8-inch, 2280 x 1080 LCD display with a fingerprint sensor on the home button. But in case you want something more from your phone, Honor has you covered.

While Honor hasn't revealed the pricing of the Honor 10 GT yet, the company did announce the phone will be sold through a flash sale on July 24 exclusively on JD.com and Honor store, in China. In terms of an global release, though, the Huawei-owned brand is yet to announce any details.

The device will be available in one variant only - 8GB RAM + 128 GB internal storage. George Zhao, the Huawei Honor President, also said that the AIS technology will also be introduced to the other variants of Honor 10 on July 15. At the front, it boasts a 24-megapixel camera. The company is focussing on the lower-to-mid range of devices (so far we've got the really solid Honor 7X and the 9 Lite) for South Africa at the moment - which is why we're not (officially) getting the lower-spec Honor 10 in this country either. The camera features a Super Night Scene mode to capture attractive night shots using a tripod. The front camera sports a 24-megapixel sensor and 1.8-micron pixel camera for better selfies and video calling.
