English golfers react to country's semifinal World Cup loss to Croatia

"We have to be pragmatic and we have to be realistic", French manager Didier Deschamps said ahead of England vs. Croatia, according to ESPN.

He said: "I just feel so disappointed".

"A lot of surprises at the World Cup, with Germany, Argentina, they are out of the competition, but also surprised by England, how they play, their style, how they play different to the past", he said.

France and Croatia will fight for the right to be called the World Cup champion.

While English players laid strewn across the turf at full-time at the Luzhniki Stadium, Croatia's were jubilant after reaching the World Cup final for the very first time.

"I'm remarkably proud of the group of players - the reaction of the supporters compared to two years ago shows the country are proud of the way we played", Southgate said.

And while defeat is a huge disappointment, many people have marked the occasion by celebrating the historic showing by Gareth Southgate's team.

"Maybe (that was) a outcome of being ahead and being the least experienced team in the tournament with the chance to get to a World Cup final", he added.

"When you get to this stage of the competition, the margins are fine. they've taken two of their (chances) and we weren't able to respond".

Paul Sealey, who is visiting the area, said: "The team will do all in their power to win".

The Croatians overcame an even bigger demographic difference in the quarter-final, beating Russian Federation - a nation of around 145 million - on penalties.

France has been one of the most complete sides in the tournament, topping Belgium in the semifinal round.

While England's top football players were on the pitch, its top golfers were sitting at home watching the game unfold.

There were scenes of heartbreak at the various fan parks across the nation, including at Hyde Park, where 30,000 gathered to watch the big game. "I think it's going to be incredibly loud in any bar we end up going to for the match".
