Emmy Award nominations: 'Handmaid's Tale' earns 20 nods

"Game of Thrones" roared back onto the Emmy Award battlefield, topping Thursday's nominations with 22 bids but with a formidable opponent in last year's victor, "The Handmaid's Tale", while a streaming platform made history by earning the most bids for the first time.

The nomination ceremony can be streamed on the Emmys website, or right here!

The revival of "Roseanne, " canceled because of star Roseanne Barr's racist tweet, drew only one major nomination, a supporting actress nod for Laurie Metcalf.

The Hulu series, which is set in a dystopian MA, earned 20 nominations, including a repeat nomination for the victor of last year's Supporting Actress in a Drama Series award, Holyoke native Ann Dowd.

Donald Glover's "Atlanta" is the top comedy with 16 bids. "Westworld", which tied "Saturday Night Live" last year for the most-nominated series with 22, picked up 21 nominations in its second year. It got 23 nods in 2016 but wasn't eligible previous year.

Samira Wiley and Ryan Eggold will share a podium on Thursday, bringing us the Orange Is the New Blacklist crossover we didn't know we needed. The Creative Arts Awards this year are September 8-9, with the Primetime Emmy Awards set for Monday, September 17 at 8 AM ET/5 PM PT at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
