DJI Mavic 2 leak shows off sleeker design and swappable camera gimbal

DJI Mavic 2 leak shows off sleeker design and swappable camera gimbal

Another new feature rumored to be coming to the next Mavic Pro involves additional sensors that could provide it with 360-degree obstacle avoidance. You might see the Mavic 2 soon, but not that soon.

When it comes to pushing the limits of drones that'll fit in a backpack or (very large) purse, DJI has been tops - the Mavic Pro made flying 4K footage pretty dang portable, and we've called the Mavic Air the best travel drone.

With a sleeker looking body and seemingly larger motors, the Mavic 2 drone is intriguing.

That event has however since been postponed, and while it's not quite 100 percent confirmation that a Mavic successor was what DJI was planning on revealing on the day, a purported image of the company's next major consumer drone was leaked online over the weekend - and it shows off several new features.

It also looked like the DJI Mavic 2 has a swappable camera gimbal, similar to the GoPro Karma. The latter is located on the table and could be the one that will help "See the Bigger Picture" as the teaser to the Mavic Pro II says. Just a few days ago, a leaked photo stirred excitement among drone fans as it is the first credible image of the upcoming release.

The Mavic Pro 2 is going to be more powerful.

DJI is, of course, still far and away the market leader for consumer drones, and its Mavic line has gone a long way toward helping mainstream the product for consumers. And whether or not the Mavic 2 would represent a good deal would depend on whether or not the price is comparable to the $999 you pay for a Mavic Pro.

The arms of this drone are also rounded rather than featuring sharp and defined edges as per the original model.

In related DJI news, it looks like a July 18 company event has been postponed indefinitely, according to CNet. But it seems to suggest that the front legs can fold sideways.
