Dead Island 2 is Not Cancelled

"What's going on is that it's in development and we won't be showing more until we're ready", the Dead Island 2 Twitter account tweeted.

Deep Silver did confirm that Dead Island 2 was still in development in May previous year, but whether it would resemble the Los Angeles-themed game originally envisioned by Yager, or something else entirely, was anyone's guess.

Technically we still don't if they are, since the tweet doesn't mention the developer, but you'd assume they are. Not only did the social media account confirm that it's definitely still in development, but also that it would offer more about the forthcoming project "at a later stage".

The original Dead Island is not exactly a GameCentral favourite but we were looking forward to the sequel, as original developer Techland left the franchise and went to work on Dying Light instead (which has its own sequel coming out soon). Originally, YAGER Development (of Spec Ops: The Line fame) was overseeing the development of the game. However, a year later, Deep Silver revealed that YAGER was no longer working on it, and that was the last time we heard about this open-world zombie game. At this point, one can only hope that the sequel simply manages to release and just provide improvements upon the original, as its troubled development has made many anxious about the quality of the content to come.
