Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Real Madrid to join Juventus

In an open letter issued via the club's official website, www.realmadrid.com, minutes after his impending departure was announced, he wrote: "These years at Real Madrid and in this city of Madrid have been possibly the happiest of my life. Real Madrid will always be your home".

When Real Madrid bought Ronaldo from Manchester United for £80 million in 2009, they set what was then a world-record transfer fee.

Real Madrid have agreed to let the Portugese player leave.

The Bianconeri can feel emboldened about their chances of winning the Champions League for the first time since 1996 with Real's all-time leading goalscorer officially on the books.

He helped the club win four Champions League titles - beating Juventus in the final in 2017 - and also won the league and cup twice each.

A day later, Spanish newspaper Marca reported the five-time Champions League victor had begun looking for a house in Turin.

The Belgium global has won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup and the Europa League since his move to Chelsea FC from French side Lille in 2012.

Cristiano and Ramos have been team mates and stalwarts of a Real Madrid team that, in the nine years they have played together, have won four Champions League titles, two LaLiga titles, two Spanish Cups and three Fifa Club World Cups.

He is also a five-time world player of the year, a record he shares with his eternal rival, Argentine talisman Lionel Messi.

I have thought a lot and I know that the moment has come for a new cycle. I'm leaving, but this shirt, this badge and the Santiago Bernabeu will continue to always feel as my own wherever I am. On Thursday, beIN Sports correspondent Tancredi Palmeri suggested the Bianconeri were prepared to sell Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala to make room for Ronaldo.

Portugal was eliminated by Uruguay in the round of 16 of this year's tournament in Russian Federation.

He scored 451 goals for the side in 438 games, and won 17 major trophies in total.
