Cardi B Launches Counter-Lawsuit Against Former Manager

Cardi B is taking her ex-manager Klenord "Shaft" Raphael to court.

Beyond the money, Shaft also tried to control everything Cardi did, including "barriers between her and people close to her in an effort to maintain complete control over her".

Cardi B has gone legal in a dispute with her former manager Klenord Raphael, aka Shaft.

At the time of the lawsuit, Licalsi released an official statement making clear that he would be responding to the allegations in court, and posed the rhetorical question about how Raphael could want 20 percent for a management fee, then want another 50 percent in publishing royalties, yet not think he's "robbing Cardi B blind", which is what the rapper was alleging in the first place.

After filing the complaint, a representative for Raphael explained: "Since discovering Cardi B in 2015, Shaft has played an integral role in developing her music career and public image".

Back in April, Shaft sued Cardi for allegedly cutting him off financially.

Cardi also claims that Shaft was "negligent" in record-keeping responsibilities; the suit reads that a proper accounting of funds was not kept. Almanzar is Cardi B's real name. "Despite having a fiduciary duty as a manager to act in Ms. Almanzar's best interest with undivided loyalty, Shaft himself and through his entities took advantage of Ms. Almanzar's trust and naiveté and persuaded her to sign contracts and to enter deals in which Shaft attempted to take an unreasonable and unconscionable portion of Ms. Almanzar's earnings in the entertainment industry for himself".

Cardi B is now one of the hottest hip-hop artists with the success of her smash hit "Bodak Yellow" previous year. In the suit, she says that bled over into her dating life, with Shaft telling her "who she should and should not see romantically".

Cardi B arrives for the 2018 Met Gala in a custom Moschino outfit and bedazzled headpiece.

Raphael is seeking at least $10 million damages through the suit.
