Buffon however will miss the first three Champions League games of next season if he does join PSG, after being sent off in his final European appearance for Juventus, in their controversial quarter final defeat to eventual winners Real Madrid last season.

PSG are also yet to win the tournament despite huge investment in their squad - including a world-record deal for Neymar - and domestic dominance, but Buffon is not exclusively focusing on European titles.

New Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has insisted that winning the Champions League is not an "obsession" for either him or the club.

"PSG are the team that I followed the most in recent years because I was curious".

"PSG intrigued me a lot because of the talent in the team, but they were not enough to make the leap. But when the season begins you can't think of enveloping all this in the aim for the Champions League because that would be complete craziness and we're not insane here".

"I only played alongside Blaise for one year, but he is a great person", said Buffon.

"Neymar can come back in Paris with the envy to win everything".

The veteran goalkeeper confirmed he sought counsel from former Juventus team-mate Blaise Matuidi before opting to join the France worldwide at PSG, where he will play under new coach Thomas Tuchel. "In Turin, I was in a considerable comfort zone. In one month, I will know more about the squad, and I will improve - I was unable to refuse that". I never like being comfortable - I have always looked to challenge myself.

"I don't want to think about it anymore, it is negative".

"I prefer to play on as long as my body allows me to", he continued.

The PSG ace is widely regarded as one of the best players in the world but failed to inspire his country in Russian Federation this summer. Over two decades later and the 12-time Serie A goalkeeper of the year is now a PSG player.
