Watch this officer rescue child running alongside freeway traffic

Dash cam from Sergeant Anthony Mannino's patrol auto shows him plucking a toddler from harm's way in Naperville, Illinois last month.

The officer said he immediately slammed on his breaks.

"I have twin boys", he said. In dashcam footage of the rescue, Mannino is seen running after the child before carrying it back to his cruiser.

Once Mannino stops his vehicle, he runs after the boy, shouting "come here".

But as he drew closer, he realized it was a 1-year-old boy running along the highway's right lane, just steps away from passing cars. She told the sergeant he had made it about two blocks from their home before he was saved by the quick-thinking cop.

Once he was able to grab the boy, he can be heard telling him, "You're okay, you're okay".

"It could have definitely had a very tragic ending", Mannino added.

Mannino was presented with the Life Saving Award from the Naperville Police Department last Thursday for his actions.

"Well done, Sergeant", the police department wrote on their page.
