'Wake up Punchy!' Trump hits back at Robert De Niro

But in a tweet, Mr Trump described the actor as "a very Low IQ individual".

De Niro, one of the most respected American actors, twice used the so-called F-Bomb against Trump on Sunday, prompting loud applause from the audience of theater actors, directors and producers at Radio City Music Hall. "I watched him last night and truly believe he may be 'punch-drunk, '" the leader of the free world tweeted.

What did De Niro say exactly that would take away from the attention the president's historic summit received? "It's no longer down with Trump, it's f-- Trump!"

The president's diatribe against De Niro did not end there either, he continued in a second tweet that the actor must not 'realize the economy is the best it's ever been with employment being at an all time high, and many companies pouring back into our country'.

In the catalog of nicknames Trump has bestowed upon his detractors, "Punchy" has to be his worst yet.

On that note, Trump has responded to De Niro's comments via Twitter.

The rebuttal comes after the 74-year-old Goodfellas actor expressed his feelings towards Trump while introducing a performance by his pal Bruce Springsteen at the awards show.

De Niro's first prominent act of speaking out against Trump arrived in a PSA video preceding the presidential election in October 2016, when the actor called Trump a "dog", a "mutt", a "con", and an "idiot", and said of then-candidate Trump, "I'd like to punch him in the face".

"It's a disgrace. And I apologize to Justin Trudeau and the other people at the G7".

I doubt De Niro is going to lose much sleep over this, though, and, just for fun, here's his hit on Trump.
