A United Airlines plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Shannon, Ireland on Monday after a bomb threat was found on board.

A United Airlines aircraft which diverted to Shannon airport yesterday due to a potential security concern, is due to proceed with its journey to Chicago this afternoon.

A Garda spokesperson also told the Independent.ie that the flight was diverted following "the discovery of a note relating to a bomb threat on board".

The crew are believed to have discovered a bomb warning written in the toilet, necessitating a diversion to Shannon, where it landed at 1.42pm.

The airline confirmed the flight diverted because of a "potential security concern", declining to comment further.
