Top White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow suffers heart attack, Trump says

President Donald Trump announced on Twitter Monday that Larry Kudlow, his top economic adviser, had suffered a heart attack.

Trump's tweet came minutes before he is expected to meet with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un to discuss a possible deal for the country to denuclearize. Kudlow said he is "in accord" with Trump's agenda and his team at the White House would help implement the policies set by the president.

The White House didn't immediately comment on his condition.

Kudlow was appointed head of the National Economic Council in April.

Kudlow returned from Canada over the weekend after joining world leaders and members of Trump's White House circle for a combative Group of 7 summit.

Mr Kudlow joined the Trump administration earlier this year.

The famously pinstripe-suited Kudlow succeeded Gary Cohn, a former Goldman Sachs executive who left the post in a dispute over Trump's decision to impose tariffs on imported steel and aluminum.

"In an interview with CNN on Sunday, Kudlow said: "(Trudeau) really kind of stabbed us in the back".

Kudlow went on to label Trudeau's news conference, at which the prime minister said "Canadians will not be pushed around" on the issue of tariffs, as a "betrayal".

Kudlow worked closely with the president on trade and economic negotiations at the G7 Summit in Canada, before the president traveled to Singapore.
