North Korea Summit: Best Donald Trump & Kim Jong-un Memes

He added, "Before taking office people were assuming that we were going to War with North Korea".

When Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong visited the worldwide media center for the summit at F1 Pit Building on Sunday, he said it will cost the city state "around 20 million Singaporean dollars" (W16.1 billion, US$1=W1,078) to host the "historic summit".

Mr. Trump said the US will be continuing sanctions until denuclearization occurs - but suggested sanctions might be lifted earlier than many experts thought possible. Beijing lost little time in declaring that Singapore forged a "new history".

The KCNA report was also read on state television by Ri Chun Hee, a 75-year-old grandmother who usually announces major news - including North Korea's largest nuclear test last September.

Xi met twice with Kim before Singapore and retains a strong influence on the situation - China even lent Kim a plane to get to the summit.

Trump received a 51 percent approval rating for his handling of North Korea and also led the list of leaders who should take the most credit for the summit and the joint pledge.

Seoul and Pyongyang have already vowed to hold more regular meetings and the legitimisation of Kim on the world stage makes a Moon trip to Pyongyang more likely.

Just over half of all Americans say they approve of how President Donald Trump has handled North Korea, but only a quarter think that his summit this week with Kim Jong Un will lead to the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, according to a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll released on Wednesday. After all, if there is no threat, why would the North Koreans need to give up their arsenal?

The cancellation of the war games seemed to grate in Tokyo, with Japanese Defence Minister Itsunori Onodera stressing they were "vital" for regional security.

It also reported that Kim told Trump that it was "urgent" that the two countries halt "irritating and hostile military actions against each other" during the talks.

Going forward, officials in Tokyo are reportedly seeking an Abe-Kim summit to thrash out the issue head-to-head.

However, in the joint statement signed by the US and North Korea, it only says that the country is committed to "working toward complete denuclearization".
