New Xbox consoles teased at E3 2018

There really haven't been any substantive leaks regarding a new game in the ultimate Xbox franchise, but a Halo 6 announcement would be an easy way to get Xbox One owners excited about the future of the console. Note the plurality here, which could mean a new generation with its own mid-gen refresh (for example another Xbox One with beefier specs and its own Xbox One X with even beefier capabilities).

New games from Japanese developers were shown too - another surprise, that they were using Xbox's conference to make the reveal at all.

Microsoft is to double the size of its first-party development ecosystem, by acquiring four studios and creating an entirely new studio. The game will be released exclusively on Xbox One and Windows 10.

As such, there was a lot of soft pressure on Microsoft going into this year's E3 to, if not right the ship entirely, at least show signs of life.

Spencer kept mention of these new consoles very brief.

"We are now at a moment of exceptional creativity in gaming", said Spencer.

"When we started this project, the team's vision for the game was ambitious - so much so that we knew we had to build new tech to fully realize our goals for Halo Infinite". We learned a whole bunch about Fallout 76, including a new trailer, Rage 2, Starfield and new content for Prey called Mooncrash.

Although we can't be entirely sure of what the distant future holds for gaming but it seems that for Microsoft consoles will be a part of it for a while yet. "We found innovative game designers, master storytellers and exceptional world builders".

Meanwhile, Microsoft is also working on a "cloud network" to stream console-quality gameplay to an array of Internet-linked devices including smartphones and tablets, according to Spencer. "We are dedicated to perfecting your experience everywhere you want to play, on your Xbox, your PC, or your phone", he announced to cheers.
