Mesut Ozil to miss Saudi Arabia friendly after suffering knee injury

Ozil had missed the closing games of Arsenal's Premier League campaign due to a back injury suffered during the Europa League semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid on May 3.

The 29-year-old midfielder picked up the knock in Germany's 2-1 defeat to Austria on Saturday and has been unable to take part in full training this week.

However, Ozil has moved to allay fears over his fitness by confirming he could participate in a light training session today.

"I didn't take part in final team training today, but some running exercises were possible again", Ozil said in a Twitter post on Thursday afternoon.

The playmaker's won Germany's player of the year award on five occasions.

Bayern Munich star Jerome Boateng could play his first game since suffering a groin injury in April.

With Oezil out, Paris Saint-Germain's Julian Draxler is set to fill the attacking midfield role.

Across his many outings, which spans four major worldwide tournaments, he's registered 23 goals (the latest coming in Germany's surprise loss away to neighbours Austria) - surpassed only by the aforementioned Muller (38) and Mario Gomez (31) - whilst creating a further 40 for his teammates.

"We've worked through the defeat, taken our mistakes to heart - tomorrow we want to do a much better job", said left-back Jonas Hector.

"We still have some time to go to the World Cup, it's nothing dramatic". But he didn't play on the level that Leroy Sane played. "I can't see it", Ballack told British media.
