Jeff Horn No Match for Terence Crawford

Jeff Horn No Match for Terence Crawford

After the fight, Crawford had said in an interview that he would be up to fight some of the other champions at welterweight, which includes WBA champion Keith Thurman, IBF champion Errol Spence Jr. and the WBC title which is vacant and being contested by Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter. "Terence would just get that odd shot, just that little bit more". Horn will be making his first appearance in the US and against perhaps the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world.

Against an Aussie known for only his strength, however, Crawford looked like the bigger fighter.

Crawford, a traditional right-hander who fought southpaw most of the bout, dominated from the start, using both hands to pepper Horn throughout.

The unbeaten Crawford (33-0, 24 KO's), 30, one of boxing's finest pound-for-pound performers, made a splash in his welterweight debut by dismantling Jeff Horn before 8,112 fans Saturday at MGM Grand in Las Vegas in an utterly one-sided ninth-round TKO victory to become a three-division world champion.

Horn became a star of sorts thanks to his win past year over Manny Pacquiao before a packed crowd in an outdoor stadium in Brisbane.

But somehow, the Australian boxing champion kept his cool amid dramatic scenes and allegations of foul play at the official weigh-in for his mandatory world title defence against Terence Crawford.

"But he's got to do it better than what he done to Pacquiao". Crawford followed up the knockdown with more flurries in the ninth round until referee Robert Byrd stopped the fight with 27 seconds remaining in the round, awarding Crawford the win.

The 30-year-old Crawford, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Horn, also 30, were supposed to fight April 14 at Mandalay Bay Events Center.

"There's a lot of things he's got to do and do right in this fight".

"Glenn's my rock, he mentally prepares me for the fights". Crawford landed 26 of 54 punches in the third round and it was clear he found his rhythm. From there on out, it only got uglier for Horn, as Crawford continually landed jab after jab, gassing the Australian native and keeping him off-balance.

"There's more chance of a cut, more chance of a knockdown but I'm the heavier puncher so Crawford should be very anxious. The future is unlimited".

Rushton said Horn would be a little over 70kg after rehydrating before the fight. "He reminds me of Sugar Ray Leonard and that is a great compliment because I always thought Leonard was the best", gushed Arum. With the win, it opened the door for Pedraza to challenge WBO lightweight world champion Ray Beltran in August.
