'I really don't care': Melania Trump jacket stuns on migrant visit

When Trump arrived at Joint Base Andrews Thursday morning to travel to Texas, wearing the "I-really-don't-care" jacket with its message emblazoned in white paint, it was first noticed by the Daily Mail.

A tone-deaf sartorial decision - or a hidden message from the first lady? "We all know they're here without their families, and I want to thank you for your hard work". But even after questions arose about her attire, Mrs. Trump was back in the green jacket when she returned to Washington in 80-degree weather.

Another added: "Feckless stunt...[Melania] doesn't care and is mocking anyone who does". Trump himself cited his wife's stance as one of the reasons why he signed the executive order on Wednesday.

Mrs Trump sat alongside Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar at a table at Upbring New Hope Children's Center and heard caregivers explain how the children are well treated.

Some went as far as comparing the centres to "concentration camps", a claim rubbished by members of Trump's senior team. Despite public outcry over the jacket, she put it back on for her return trip.

Conscious fashion choice or not, social media users have reacted with disbelief to the First Lady's wardrobe of choice during this particular trip.

However, a tweet from President Trump suggested there was a message.

Melania Trump, herself an immigrant from Slovenia, first weighed into the debate on Sunday with a public statement saying she hated to see children separated from their families and calling on the USA to govern "with heart".

"It's a jacket. There was no hidden message", said Melania Trump's publicist, insisting reporters instead focus on the First Lady's detention center visit. "Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!" he tweeted. The president's daughter and White House adviser Ivanka Trump had also privately expressed her concerns about the policy to the president.

"She wanted to see as close to what she had been seeing on TV", Grisham said. Since the Stormy Daniels stories began, Melania has been noticeably absent from her husband's side.

Mrs Trump's spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham lambasted USA media on Twitter for focusing on her fashion choice. Melania pointedly wore that white trousers suit to her husband's most recent State of the Union address after declining to accompany him on an worldwide trip and instead heading to Mar-a-Lago when the Stormy Daniels news broke.
