Fortnite Battle Royale: Beware, Your Killer Is On the Nintendo Switch!

Teases initially began on the Nintendo Switch version of Fortnite, which was released last week during E3 2018. Allowing players to band together regardless of their console, "cross-play" blurs the lines between ecosystems, making it easier than ever to play with friends.

PlayStation users are furious at Sony for not letting them use their existing Fortnite accounts on the Nintendo Switch - a limitation not faced by Xbox One users.

In its place, the Switch's online service will offer back catalogue titles, and launches this September with a lineup of NES games including Super Mario Bros.

Fortnite is available now in early access for Nintendo Switch, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

The collection now includes 25 different headsets that are compatible with the system - and because Fortnite has its own in-game voice chat functionality on the Switch, this replaces the need for players to use Nintendo's mobile voice chat app to communicate with their squad.

With cross-play being developed and implemented at the will of a developer, the steps for using the feature can also drastically vary between titles.

So, there are a lot of reasons why cross-platform play would be great for Federation Internationale de Football Association - and it sounds like the developers agree. This often comes down to the nature of the gameplay and what approach a developer deems best for the best experience.

What this means is that if you have used your Fortnite account even once on the PS4 or linked your Epic Games account to PlayStation Network, you won't be able to use that account on the Nintendo Switch. What other games would you like to see support cross-platform play?

Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Files-Aime has admitted messaging was a big problem for Wii U - and a big success for Switch. Of those offering cross-play, many also offer multiplayer between more than just the two platforms, including PC and Mac.
