Daredevil raccoon scales skyscraper and becomes viral sensation

It all began on Monday (June 12), when the racoon was stranded on the Town Square office building.

The Minnesota raccoon paused at several points on narrow window ledges during its climb, even taking naps before continuing onward.

Shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday, Sheila Donnelly from the law firm on the top floor of the building confirmed the raccoon has been caught by a live trap - ending the epic saga.

Due to the building's sealed windows, rescue efforts have been futile - animal-control authorities are hoping it will reach the roof where it will be trapped.

This little guy had legions of social media users anxious for his safety after scaling the UBS Tower in St. Paul, Minn., but all is well.

"We've been getting calls and texts from all over the country and the world", St. Paul mayor Melvin Carter said at an impromptu press conference Wednesday morning. "We're working with staff & building owner to find a way to help #MPRraccoon without further endangering it or staff by scaring or making it feel threatened".

By Tuesday afternoon, the St. Paul Fire Department had paid a visit to the ledge-lounging raccoon.

Whatever fate awaits the wild creature, it's now achieved whatever level of fame that an animal hits when it gets multiple Twitter accounts.

It wasn't until about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday the raccoon had successfully reached the top of the building.

The masked animal did so by scaling a St. Paul, Minnesota, skyscraper, a la Spider-Man, and in the process riveting - and terrifying - legions of humans who followed online.

The raccoon was first spotted on a ledge on Tuesday morning (local time), just a few stories high.
