Bound Fred injures ankle in training

United €56m man Fred has apparently suffered ankle trauma just one week out from this year's World Cup in Russian Federation.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho had made the 25 year-old central midfielder his first signing of the summer as the Portuguese begins the challenge to Manchester City's crown in 2018/19. He sat out for at least the rest of the portion of training in London that was open to the media. The severity and extent of the injury will not be known until after a scan is performed tomorrow.

Brazil's team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar has revealed they can not make a thorough assessment until the swelling subsides. "He started working out right after".

Reports indicate that United have made a £50 million+ investment in the Brazilian, so today's news from his country's worldwide training session is extremely alarming to United and their fan base.

Fred has made eight appearances for Brazil and made head coach Tite's final 23-man squad for the World Cup in Russian Federation. They play a friendly against Austria in Vienna on Sunday.

Elsewhere in Tite's side, Neymar will start his first global game since November on Sunday.

They will also face group matches against Costa Rica and Serbia, before hopefully progressing to the knockout stages.

"Everyone wants to fight for a position, our trainings are very strong, " left-back Marcelo said.
