Beckham backs North America SWC 2026 bid

Shared hosting for the 2026 edition may become a reality next week, with Fifa's congress set to choose between a Canada-US-Mexico bid and a rival proposal from Morocco.

The only part of the evaluation that either bid scored perfectly on was ticketing and hospitality where United 2026 was awarded five out of five.

A difference in projected ticket sales of United States dollars 1.3 billion between the two bids helped lead the report to note "significantly higher" forecast revenue of USD14.3 billion from North Americans and USD 7.2 billion from Morocco.

The delegation of Morocco's 2026 FIFA World Cup bid includes Secretary of State for Water, Charafate Afailal; Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, Rkia Derham; Abderahim Souiri, a member of the Executive Board of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF); and chairwoman of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sport for All, Nezha Bidouane.

"Of course more teams means more stadiums, more venues, more hotels, more transportation", Infantino said. "What our task has been is to make sure the process is as objective, as clear as possible and to highlight the pros and the cons of everything".

"So now the infrastructure is more there, the excitement is more there and there's more people throughout the United States that are really starting to understand the game, get excited about the game and that's not just people inside the USA getting excited about European football, they're getting excited about the MLS and what's happening in the MLS".

"I hope when they vote they think what is best for football, definitely not on other subjective criteria that they might have for themselves", Infantino said.

Infantino would not be drawn on whether U.S President Donald Trump's recent veiled threats of consequences for countries not supporting the American bid could be a factor in the poll either way. Hosting 48 teams could mean sharing games with other Middle East nations to find up to four extra stadiums Qatar now does not plan to build.

"I find the CONMEBOL proposal interesting to study", he said.

Any consultation on the 2022 World Cup must reach a decision by FIFA's June 2019 congress, he said.

Last month, resistance from UEFA to a new Club World Cup format over a lack of clarity about the plans led to Infantino backing down from an attempt to push it through ahead of the World Cup.

"We should be proud and happy for that".

"I can not disclose (details) in that $25 billion", said Infantino who was not concerned about which country the investment originated from. I've seen that passion.

Reed praised Zimbabwe's hospitality and was optimistic their bid will win on June 13, where the final decision will be made by the Federation Internationale de Football Association congress, "We are very appreciative of the president and the minister and the government for their support".
