Aston Martin details Rapide AMR with 580 horsepower

Aston says the resulting vehicle, with the significant changes to the aerodynamics, brakes and suspension, is "more focused, agile and dynamic".

Talking about the model, Aston boss Andy Palmer said the model's "enhanced performance, sharper dynamics and more powerful design language... has taken Rapide to new and exciting extremes".

Aston Martin has detailed its latest racing-theme special edition, the Rapide AMR, that was first unveiled as a concept in Geneva.

The Rapide AMR has a limited production of 210 cars. Meanwhile the circular daytime running lights recall the recent Zagato models. For starters, the 5.9 litre naturally-aspirated V12 (the brand markets it as a 6.0 litre) gets larger inlet manifolds derived from the Vantage GT12 as well as new calibration for the engine and eight-speed Touchtronic III automatic gearbox.

The Gaydon-based automaker says the Rapide AMR's aerodynamics have been tuned to reduce lift while "retaining a neutral balance", with the added aerodynamic bodywork (the splitter, sills, rear diffuser and boot-lid spoiler) fashioned from carbon-fibre. The new bonnet with large ventilation inserts is also made from carbon fibre to minimize the weight on the Aston Martin Rapide AMR.

Regardless of the region, however, all Rapide AMRs produce the same 630Nm of torque.

"To help harness all of this power and to launch from 0-100km in just 4.2 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds), the Rapide AMR has 21" wheels - a first for any Aston Martin - paired with ultra-high performance Michelin Super Sport tyres. It rides 10 mm lower than the Rapide S and the three stage adaptive dampers have been tweaked to support this initiative. This is also the first Rapide with carbon ceramic brakes - 400mm at the front with six-piston calipers and 360mm at the rear with four pistons each - and the first Aston Martin of any kind with 21 inch wheels, which necessitated special Michelin Super Sport tyres, developed specifically for this vehicle. They hide a set of carbon ceramic brakes. The Standard and Silhouette designs come in your choice of four colours - black, blue and two shades of silver - with lime green accents on the splitter, sills and rear diffuser in Standard trim and a full-length contrasting stripe in grey or white on the Silhouette.

Inside, the Aston Martin AMR will receive a theme that mirrors the exterior with either AMR Lime or Galena Silver welting and stitching.

For that proper "AMR look", you'll want the Signature scheme that matches Stirling Green paint with Lime accents and a Lime stripe. Each auto comes with a unique AMR inspection plaque, plenty of AMR branding and carbon sill plaques.

Customers who don't care for the three available design schemes can opt for a bespoke project commissioned by the Q by Aston Martin division.

Prices for the new Aston Martin Rapide AMR is available in the United Kingdom priced from £194,950. The auto will be available worldwide with the exception of China and Russian Federation, and customer deliveries are scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of 2018.
