Alaphilippe pips Martin at Criterium summit

French rider Julian Alaphilippe won the fourth stage of the Criterium du Dauphine on Thursday, while Team Sky's Gianni Moscon took the overall lead from team mate Michal Kwiatkowski.

Ultimately, it was Quick-Step Floors' Alaphilippe who crossed the line in front in a time of 4:26.58 with UAE Team Emirates' Martin and Sky's Thomas in hot pursuit.

Moscon now leads Kwiatkowski and Thomas by six seconds as Team Sky still hold all the podium positions in the overall standings following their team time trial success yesterday.

"It's a super hard climbing stage race, even harder on the weekend now". The Dauphine is the main warm-up race for the July 7-29 Tour de France. "I'll enjoy tomorrow, or I'll try to enjoy it in the jersey and defend it but it's super hard".

Adam Yates, who'd made much of the early running in the stage, came home in third, 15 seconds behind Martin.

"It's great in the new team environment".

The fifth stage on Friday, the second of four consecutive summit finishes, ends at Valmorel after 130 kilometres.

"Ive been feeling good all year", the Irishman said after the race. Martin and his rivals will face two climbs of category two in the first 20 kilometres and then the summit finish of 12.7 kilometres at an average of seven per cent.
