Xiaomi launches Mi Music and Mi Video in India

The Mi Music app is available in India from today, while the new supercharged Mi Videos will be available from next week. The Mi Video app which will be available next week will offer streaming services from AltBalaji, SonyLiv, Voot, Hungama Play, Zee5, Viu, and TVF etc. Xiaomi says there are over 500,000 hours of video content with 80% being free. Mi Music and Mi Video are the first Internet services that Xiaomi has brought to India. As a part of the partnership, Xiaomi has launched Mi Music app. The revamped Mi Music app goes live today whereas the Mi Video app is expected to be revamped next week.

Mi Music also has a new feature called Dynamic Lyrics which shows the lyrics of the song now playing. Although, Pro features like downloading a track comes at a cost of Rs 899 per year, which will cover the subscription cost for Hungama Music.

"Mi Music" is a pre-installed music app which offers an integrated music streaming service along with the ability to store offline music and has almost seven million daily active users in India, the statement said.

Over time, Xiaomi said it'll add personalised recommendations to both apps, in addition to picture in picture (PiP), and languages and genre filter for Mi Video, and music videos, and themes for Mi Music. Currently, Mi Video promises to offer more than 5,00,000 hours of content with almost 80 per cent of free content. Users will be able to cast video content from Mi Video to their smart TVs, as the player supports DLNA and Miracast. The service now offers more than 12 video formats such as AVI, MP4, MOV, MKV, and MKA, MPEG, M2TS amongst others.

These two apps were announced at Mi Pop Play in Mumbai. It also supports multilingual subtitles, private folders, and multiple audio tracks.

Xiaomi has confirmed that it will roll out stable release for Mi Video starting from second week of May.
