Whitney Houston Was 'Sexually Abused', New Documentary Reveals

Ahead of a midnight premiere screening at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, the first official trailer for Kevin Macdonald's Whitney Houston documentary, Whitney, was released Wednesday morning.

The doc is an "intimate, unflinching portrait of Houston and her family that probes beyond familiar tabloid headlines and sheds new light on the spellbinding trajectory of Houston " s life.

Two different people make the sexual assault claim on screen, including Houston's half-brother (and former National Basketball Association player) Gary Garland-Houston.

Asked who it was, she said Miss Houston replied: 'It was Dee Dee Warwick'.

Garland-Houston said in the documentary that Warwick allegedly molested him and Houston while he was between the ages of seven and nine while the singer was a toddler.

Houston died in 2012 at 48 after drowning in a bathtub. Dee Dee Warwick died in 2008 at age 63.

The allegations were made in the documentary "Whitney", which was made with the cooperation of Houston's family.

MacDonald admitted: 'I interviewed Pat Houston and Gary Houston, who's Whitney's brother.

Whitney's ex-husband, Bobby Brown, is a star contributor on paper, but he clams up totally when Macdonald tries to steer the conversation towards drugs, with the revealingly sinister comment, "That's not what this film is about".

"There was something very disturbed about her, because she was never comfortable in her own skin..." What's more, she said Houston named Warwick as the perpetrator.

The movie debuted on the Cannes Movie Pageant and options interviews with a number of of Houston's family members and closest buddies. Earlier this month, director Macdonald told The Hollywood Reporter that Houston's rendition of the National Anthem played a part in his decision to tell her story.

Check out the trailer as it teases revelations about Houston's longtime friend and assistant Robyn Crawford and the nature of their relationship. "She's this handsome woman but she's very closed in her demeanor". "There was something preventing her, in some way, from expressing her real self". And I thought that was interesting.

Representatives for Dionne Warwick didn't immediately return messages today. You can check it out the Miramax and Roadside Attractions in theaters (in North America) starting July 6.
