Utah homicide suspect arrested in southeast Colorado

According to local affiliate Fox 13, French was taken into custody in Colorado around 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9. He was previously considered a person of interest.

We will update this story with more information as soon as additional details are released.

Salt Lake City police say Shaun French, 24, is wanted for questioning in the homicide of Baleigh Bagshaw, 15, who was killed Monday afternoon. "At that time the mother called a neighbor to go check on Baileigh who also contacted police".

The hunt for the person accused of murdering a 15-year-old girl while she was reportedly on the phone with her mother may be heading to OH, reports KTVX.

French was charged Tuesday with unlawful sexual activity with a minor for an alleged illegal relationship with Baleigh, but he has not been charged in connection with her death.

One of the reasons the felony warrant was obtained was to help facilitate French's extradition back to Utah in the event he was apprehended out-of-state, according to Shearer. The charges were filed in court but were sealed. Police believe French may be heading to OH along the I-80 corridor.

"It was a very violent and brutal attack that occurred here in the home", Salt Lake City Police Sgt. Brandon Shearer told reporters on Tuesday, calling it a "horrendous crime".

On Monday, police asked the public to be on the lookout for a camouflage-green, 1991 Daihatsu Rocky SUV with Wyoming plate 19 13974.

A possible motive for the killing had not been revealed as of Wednesday. "Please keep her family in your prayers", wrote Jeffery P. Lewis in a Facebook post linking people to a GoFundMe page for her funeral costs.
