Teacher suspended over 'relationship' with boy, 17, is shot dead in driveway

DelTondo, who was 32 at the time of her death, was shot after telling her family that she was out with a friend, according to WPXI. She died at the scene.

A neighbor said that he heard at least six shots fired.

The death has stunned neighbors in the quiet neighborhood and police are hunting for clues to the identity of the killer.

Though she was suspended by Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School, DelTondo was never charged.

The suspension came after school officials received an anonymous email containing a February 2016 police report stating Ms DelTondo had been found in a parked auto with a 17-year-old former student.

"The windows were steamed over and the engine was not running", police noted in their report.

Inside was DelTondo and the teen.

Authorities said that it is unclear whether the incident with the teenager had anything to do with her murder.

The incident report named the teen and it was confirmed that he was not registered at the charter school.

The email included the police report and a note that DelTondo and the teen had a "relationship" over text messages and Snapchat messages. She had told police the boy had called her because "he was upset and needed someone to take to". Police drove the teen home and no charges were filed.

"The reason this report was not filed in February 2016 with the Aliquippa School District, Children and Youth Services and a mandated report to the Department of Education was because it was an attempted cover up", the second email reads. The school suspended DelTondo a month after receiving the tip.

The leak led to a state investigation of the Aliquippa Police Department, and DelTondo cooperated with that investigation, CBS News reported.

Brian Hayden, CEO of Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School, said that because he is a mandatory reporter, he had to notify Pennsylvania Childline when he received the email, even though it was about an incident that had happened almost two years earlier. While her attorney reportedly advised her not to speak in detail regarding the incident, the suspended teacher did tell the media outlet she received death threats following the leak, which she said were reported to Aliquippa authorities.

Reportedly, her name was sometimes misspelled as "Rachel" in certain media publications concerning the story. We express our sympathy to her family, friends, and co-workers.

The teacher was planning a big, elaborate wedding with her Italian-American family, which included a $10,000, custom-made dress from a NY designer, CBS Local reported.

Rachael DelTondo was supposed to tie the knot in 2017, but only four months later, the wedding was called off.

The family, who had already put down a $4,600 non-refundable deposit, told the salon they would like to pay the balance and receive the dress so they could sell it, but said the designer never delivered the gown and refused to refund their deposit. By early 2017, they finally received a check in the mail. "I really don't... handsome lady, friendly, knew everybody, talked to everybody".

A neighbor said that they had no idea what happened, adding that Rachael was a friendly woman who spoke to everyone.

Rachael DelTondo, 32, was returning from an ice cream shop Sunday night when she was struck by a hail of bullets on the driveway outside her family's Aliquippa home, KDKA reported.
