Royal family thanks those who celebrated wedding

James Corden was chosen by Harry and Meghan to entertain the lucky guests, who were treated to an opulent sit-down dinner as best man Prince William delivered a cheeky speech to friends and family. Prince Harry reportedly told guests he and his wife made "such a great team" and, turning to her, said: "I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you". To which Harry replied with a smile: "Yeah I know".

Hours before, Queen Elizabeth had bestowed the title of Duke of Sussex on her grandson, a step that meant Markle became a duchess when she married Harry.

They will head home to their cottage in the grounds of Kensington Palace before attending their first official royal engagement as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex - the 70th birthday patronage celebration for Prince Charles. "So when she's on parade with the rest of the royal family, she will have it down to a T".

As well as traditional Church of England anthems and delicate English choral music, the ceremony also featured a gospel choir singing "Stand by Me", the 1960s hit by American soul singer Ben E. King.

Ms Markle wore a white boat-neck dress by British designer Clare Waight Keller and Prince Harry was given special permission from the Queen to keep his short beard while wearing the frockcoat uniform of his former regiment, the Blues and Royals.

Leading up to the wedding both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made it clear that starting a family was on the agenda for them in the near future.

'They would also like to say thank you for all of the generous messages of support they have received'.

The wedding service combined British tradition with modernity and the bride's African-American heritage. Air traffic controllers for nearby Heathrow Airport, one of the world's busiest, even closed the airspace over the town for the 15 minutes before the ceremony to avoid marring proceedings with the roar of low-flying aircraft.

Some 600 guests including the Queen and more than 30 royals joined the couple in the chapel, along with celebrities such as United States chat show queen Oprah Winfrey, tennis champion Serena Williams, actor George Clooney and his barrister wife Amal Clooney, Sir Elton John, David and Victoria Beckham and actor Idris Elba. The chapel was adorned with white roses, Diana's favourite flowers. After only two dates in 2016, he and Markle went camping together in Botswana.

But in the narrow streets of Windsor, 30 miles (20 km) west of London, the enthusiasm from the vast crowds waving British flags and cheering was overwhelming, while thousands more celebrated at street parties held across the country. Confusion over his attendance marred the build-up to the wedding, which had been choreographed for months by royal aides, and his name was still present in the order of service. "I wish I were there and I wish them all my love and all happiness".

"My baby looks lovely and she looks very happy".

As a wedding gift Prince Harry gave his bride an emerald-cut aquamarine ring which had belonged to his late mother - Diana, Princess of Wales. Their niece and nephew are looking so cute.
