North Korea to Become Nuclear Weapons State: Former Diplomat

Kim, who picked Beijing to make his maiden official trip overseas in March, has also invited Xi to visit North Korea.

It said Chinese President Xi Jinping made the offer to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un when they met in Dalian on May 7-8.

"Kim then asked Xi for China's economic assistance during the intermediate stages of denuclearization".

Thae Yong Ho, North Korea's former deputy ambassador to the United Kingdom, said he did not believe Kim would agree to a U.S. request of a "complete, verifiable, irreversible denuclearization" due to likelihood that it would "strike at the core of North Korea's power structure". Moon welcomed Kim's plans to publicly blow up North Korea's nuclear test facility.

Yet it is hard to confirm whether such speculation is true. According to the report, the group had arrived at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

National Security Advisor John Bolton said at an interview on May 13 (local time) that the US government's permanent, verifiable and irreversible dismantling (PVID) means every nuclear weapon should be dismantled and transferred to Oak Ridge and uranium enrichment and plutonium reprocessing capabilities should be removed. This might reflect President Trump's determination to make the summit a success even though he officially sticks to his much-avowed principle of denuclearization before sanctions lifting.

Pompeo's idea of economic incentives for Pyongyang includes the US private sector's help to rebuild the North's dilapidated energy grid, develop the country's infrastructure and boost its agriculture sector.

The defector said the regime might be looking into tourism projects near coastal areas and eventually seek joint economic projects with South Korea.

Russel also said that Kim Jong-Un is unlikely to put any trust in USA promises in a negotiation in the first place, even before Trump's withdrawal from the Iran deal.
