Nigeria Retains 47th Position In Latest FIFA Ranking

With less than 28 days to the FIFA World Cup, the Super Eagles' of Nigeria are still the 47th best-ranked nation for the month of May, AOIFootball.com reports.

South Africa are unmoved, and will end the month 72nd in the world and 15th in Africa, while Benin are the continent's biggest climbers.

According to the rankings on the website, seven worldwide "A" matches, all friendlies, took place in the month and as a result there are few movers in the latest ranking.

There are no movers inside the world's top 47 places, and therefore Africa's top six remain as they were in April.

The Philippines moved up two places to accomplish their best ever position in the Federation Internationale de Football Association ranking (111), due to the Azkals' positive results in recent months.

Germany maintain the top position on the latest released ranking and they were followed closely by Brazil, Belgium, Portugal, Argentina and Switzerland respectively.

The Four Nations win though comes as little compensation for Baxter's men since failing dismally to qualify for the 2018 Soccer World Cup in Russian Federation, with the rankings calculated over a rolling four-year period.

The next ranking will be published on June 7, just seven days before the opening match in Russian Federation.
