New York Mets vs. Colorado Rockies

Noah Syndergaard toes the rubber for the NY Mets against the visiting Rockies on Sunday. The Rockies edged the Mets in the series opener by an 8-7 score.

The Rockies were off Thursday after earning their second straight win Wednesday, when they cruised past the host Chicago Cubs 11-2. He allowed 10 hits, matching a career high, and struck out a season-low three in six innings.

Rockies starters last had eight consecutive quality starts in June 2009. Blackmon is now hitting.292 with 11 home runs and 20 RBI's to go with a.998 OPS on the season.

Ian Desmond's home runs helped more than the Colorado Rockies.

Noah Syndergaard will get the nod for the eighth time of the season, aiming for his first win in almost one month. He will be replaced by P.J. Conlon, who was 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA at Triple-A Las Vegas. "If I just anxious about results all the time - and I understand the game's all about winning games - we're trying to win games every single day, but to win the most games you can in the season you have to worry about other things than just the results that day and I think we're all trying to stay focused on that because we know in the end that's what's really going to matter most".

Rhys Hoskins went 1 for 3 with a home run (5), two RBIs and two walks in a 3-1 win over the Nationals. Nevertheless, no amount of production from one player could help overcome the dysfunctionality of the current Mets' lineup, with Bruce, Michael Conforto, and Amed Rosario all hitting for low averages and Yoenis Cespedes striking out at a historically bad rate.

Meanwhile, the team gave Michael Conforto a "mental day-off" yesterday as the 25-year old has not been able to get into any sort of groove this year with a.187/.347/.267 slash line with only one homer and six RBI. Rather than helping to offset these pitching concerns, the offense equally struggled, finishing 19 in the league in both batting average and runs scored en route to a dismal 70-92 record. They possess a 4.26 team ERA, positioning them 16th overall. Usually strong at home, Colorado remains just 5-7 at Coors Field, but look for that to change as the season progresses.

Before Sunday's game, Callaway explained the change of direction. Davis, who barely held on for a shaky save Friday night, worked a 1-2-3 ninth this time for his 13th save in 14 chances.

"I don't think it's a surprise, I don't think I'm concerned, it's just part of the game", Mets manager Mickey Callaway said.

Kyle Freeland is starting to find his groove.

The Rockies have been very inconsistent at the plate and Syndergaard continues to shine on the mound.

The Mets finished 0-6 on a six-game homestand and have lost 14 of 20 following an 11-1 start.
