Iran's Zarif: Good, substantive talks with Russia, China on nuclear deal

Earlier, Russia expressed "deep disappointment at the decision by trump" on the United States withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal.

Zarif said although America's withdrawal from the JCPOA left it imbalanced but still Iran would discuss ways of cooperation in a 4+1 format within the deal.

Malashenko notes that Trump's decision to ignore pleas by traditional allies such as France and Germany to remain in the Iran deal accomplished something Putin has long sought but could not achieve until now: a transatlantic rift.

Iranian state TV aired footage of protests against the USA and Israel at rallies in Tehran and elsewhere after Friday prayers.

Mr Zarif's next stop is Moscow and only then will he fly to Brussels, where he will meet Boris Johnson, the foreign secretary, and his French and German counterparts.

"So, today we expect to look at how China, Russia, Iran and the European Union can use the current tools to prevent undermining this crucial document and destabilizing the situation in the region", he said.

Zarif on Tuesday will meet with his counterparts from Germany, France and the United Kingdom in Brussels.

Trump's announcement last week that he was withdrawing the US from the landmark Iran deal inflamed regional tensions and threw European investments from oil to aerospace into jeopardy. "We will have to discuss that with Iran". He also accused Trump of "ignorance and folly".

Iranian forces in Syria fired rockets at Israeli army bases in the Golan Heights early on Thursday, Israel said, prompting one of the heaviest Israeli barrages against Syria since the conflict there began in 2011.

Iran denies the claims, saying the Israeli strikes were launched on "invented pretexts".

Saudi Arabia is another of Iran's key regional rivals. A majority of countries said that the deal should continue.

On May 13 in Beijing, Zarif expressed hope for a "clear future design" for the accord.

On the streets of Tehran, anger was directed at both Trump and Israel.

"The ultimate goal of all talks is to receive assurances that the interests of the Iranian people, enshrined in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), will be protected", he said.

"Whoever hits us will get hit seven times over".

"Without doubt we will make sure firstly that this does not destroy the JCPOA. But it's unlikely they can keep doing business today, giving room to Russian Federation", said independent political scientist Vladimir Sotnikov.

Israel annexed the Golan Heights in 1981 after capturing it from Syria in the Six Day War in 1967.
