Highland High School Shooting: Victim Shot in Arm, Gunman Detained

Police respond to a possible incident at Highland High School in California.

The sheriff's office tweeted one suspect has been detained in connection to "the person with a Highland High school in Palmdale".

Details of their condition were not immediately available, but initial reports suggest they drove themselves to hopsital.

West, was placed on lockdown along with all other schools in the Antelope Valley Union High School District.

Deputies also responded to reports of a second shooting at Manzanita Elementary School, roughly 7 miles away from the high school, but found no signs of a shooting or victims at that scene, Nishida said.

A woman told CBS Los Angeles that her son told her he was in class at the school and heard at least one gunshot.

They are being assisted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to CBS News.

A message posted to the Highland High School principal's Twitter account urged everyone to stay clear of campus. About 4,000 students attend the high school.

Ricky Munoz, 23, says he dropped his two younger brothers and a friend off at the school around that time.

"There were some kids running from the school, and security and sheriff were telling people to go home", she told CNN.
