Goldenvoice Cancels FYF Fest Ahead of 15th Anniversary

While the hype was growing for the festival in July, it was announced today that the festival would be canceled, ending its long run in the City of Angels.

This was supposed to be a big year for the festival to get back on its feet without Carlson and start strong again... but nope!

On Twitter, FYF Fest said, "our team of many women and men have worked tirelessly on this event for many years but felt unable to present an experience on par with the expectations of our loyal fans and the Los Angeles music community this year".

Ticket buyers will be contacted soon with refund information.

Founded in 2004 and initially staged at a club in L.A.'s Echo Park neighborhood by then-18-year-old concert promoter Sean Carlson, FYF Fest grew in stature and scope over the past decade and a half. While indie festivals are typically the ones that get squeezed in the ultra-competitive space, the crash of a well-known music festival in a major city operated by one of the biggest festival producers in the world is raising alarm bells about the health of the festival market in 2018.

The lineup was set to feature performances from Florence and the Machine, Janet Jackson, The Breeders, Future, the xx, My Bloody Valentine, St. Vincent, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Car Seat Headrest, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks and more.

"This wasn't something that we were consciously tallying", Yacoubian told Billboard in an April 6 interview.
