First Eurovision semi-final takes place in Lisbon

Since the introduction of Semi-Finals, we only count songs the first time they are performed, meaning that the countries pre-qualified for the Grand Final are the last ones to be counted.

The 28-year-old was Portugal's first-ever victor after after a 54-year wait for the title and Eurovision fan site Wiwibloggs has reported on his thoughts on this year's Israeli entry, Toy, which is sung by Netta Barzilai.

Back in 1956, Jetty Paerl's De Vogels Van Holland, sent by the Netherlands, was the very first entry performed at the Eurovision Song Contest.

"It doesn't matter to me (the victory - ed.), I want to do my job the best way, want to inspire a maximum of people to reach, bolshego number of hearts, how can do it".

Coral's John Hill said it looked like the United Kingdom was facing another "bleak year", adding: "It looks very unlikely that we will end our 21-year wait for the trophy once again". "Maybe in the future".

Taking to twitter, the singer told her 7,423 fans: "Sending only love to Salvador, and to artists of all genres".

Netta was previously praised by this year's UK Eurovision entrant SuRie, who told HuffPost UK earlier this year: "I want to see how ['Toy'] is done live, I can not wait". I do not think anything has changed.

Salvador's win previous year, with acoustic ballad "Amar Pelos Dois" was a change of pace for Eurovision, with its stripped-back arrangement and minimal staging.

"She's a pro... I think she's going to smash it".
